What a Fantastic Place to Live!

Sometimes people ask what it is like living in such a fantastic place. I always answer that it is a huge privilege to get up every morning and be in a location that is as fantastic as St Madoc. The whole of the Gower Peninsula is a superb and, I know I am biased in this, I believe that St Madoc is one of the best bits!

Somebody recently asked me if I would get bored living here. "Give me thirty years and I might get to take it for granted. Until then I will enjoy living here!"

Grand Opening

A week has gone by since the Grand Opening of the new facilities at St Madoc and it seems a good time to look back and consider the day a little, click to see more info. It is hard to try to work out how 'successful' the day or any day has been. I often try to judge by external things, how many people came, did things go well, what did people say. There may be some validity in that approach but it may not be the best way.

On those external criteria the day was a huge success; however the more important question is 'did we do what God called us to do?' This is a more challenging question and requires an investigation of the heart not just a look at how many people came. I often find that when I look at my own heart I find a mix of motives; part of me wants Jesus to be glorified by what is done, the other part wants people to recognise what I have done. I do not beat myself up too much on this as I know that the Christian journey is just that, a journey!

As I look back on the day I believe that the Grand Opening was a step in the right direction and part of God's plan for St Madoc. We have a desire to see the Camp have a positive impact on the lives of those who visit; with God's help we will continue to do this.

I still don't like dogs!

I don't like dogs, since I was a boy I have only ever had cats. You know where you are with cats; feed them, open the backdoor when their bladder can hold it no longer and tickle them under their chins. Nothing else is required. However with dogs everything is different; they can bite and you have to pick up their doings in a small plastic bag. I never did want a dog for those two very good and rational reasons. However, for all of our married life Alison has wanted a dog. I agreed (against my better judgement) that when the kids were older we could think about getting a dog.

Our youngest son is now twenty and Alison finally convinced me that we should get a dog. A few weeks ago we drove to Birmingham and met Dexter the greyhound for the first time. He is now settling into life at the camp and has been appointed as head of rabbit population contol. (trainee) He is already mixing well with our visitors and many of the children have enjoyed getting to know him.
I still don't like dogs, but as for Dexter, that is a different matter!
